There has often been fighting in and around Iceland over the control of the country I know very little about Icelandic history: when has there been such fighting? Errm... a gentleman named Erik the Red got bounced out of Iceland for killing a few too many people (or, perhaps, merely one or two of the wrong people) and moved west to a much larger island. Where he proved that he was a marketing genius by naming it 'Greenland' and persuading people to come on over. It should be noted that Erik's parents had been bounced out of Norway for killing a few too many people... Apparently Iceland was the Wild Wild North, the place where the Vikings too naughty for the other Vikings went. Think carefully about the implications of that sentence...
