world war 2 questions World War 2 Reseach questions
Dear All... I am researching some events on the US mainland during World War 2. Can anyone provide answers to the following... 1.  Japanese Americans were declared a security risk when the US officially became involved in WW2; they were rounded up and taken to internment camps. Did the US government allow these camp residents to have visits from non-Japanese Americans? 2. Did the US have con_script_ion during WW2? If yes, do you know when con_script_ion was first enacted? Early in the war or later? An approximate date would be appreciated. And some details about the processes used to select, contact, sign-up the con_script_ees. 3. Also related to WW2, I would like to know the chain of events that was followed between a civilian's initial signing up for the military, upto the time when they are shipped out for active duty. I particularly would like to know the events that occur before and during the new signing's arrival at boot camp . Do they asssmble for a pep-talk as soon as they arive at the_base_ (while still in civillian clothes)? Do they get issued their uniforms, boots, undergarments etc, first? Or do they check in to their barracks/dormitories first? Do they get their uniforms before they come to the _base_. A timeline including these events would be greatly appreciated. 4. President George Bush (the first one) apparently offered $20,000 compensation to the Japanese Americans that were interned during WW2. What date did this occur? Is there a record of this offer on the net? 5. I am also looking for retired soldiers who can give some details about the USA's losing campaigns against the Japanese in Borneo or Java? Thanks for any assistance. I am writing a military/romance movie screenplay. The answers willl ensure that I get the details correct. Regards Richard Bruinsma

Dear All... I am researching some events on the US mainland during World War 2. Can anyone provide answers to the following... Unless it comes from official or universally accepted sources, you absolutely cannot rely on the accuracy of things found on the Usenet or the Internet as the vast majority of the information available in those venues is not realiable. He was with the 75th Division on D-Day and later served with the 38th Signal Construction Battalion. Wish I could help with other info. Sorry.                                                             -Ugly Bob

Wish I could help with other info. Sorry. I take it that he enlisted after his first hitch then? 34 years is a pretty good career...indicating that he retired as either a Sgt Major or a COL... ck
