I have a relative who served in the East Yorkshire Regiment throughout WW1 ( and survived) whose exact roots are proving elusive.     The MOD have not located his records (the burnt 66%?) and I have a few questions, the answers of which may help narrow searches. 1. The Medal roles at Kew show that he was awarded only the Territorial War Medal as a Private in the East Yorkshire Regiment.   Is it correct to assume that he never served in a battle zone? 2. His Marriage Certificate gives an address as the camp Strensall  ( i.e. near York)  and occupation as Private 1st Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment in May 1914.    Would Territorials be _base_d here for periods of training? 3. As he had pre. WW1 family ties in London and was located there for the remainder of his post war life, would The East Yorkshire Regiment have had a Territorial Unit in London prior to 1914?
