I am trying to help my father get a good pair of boots for yard work and other stuff. He wears a civilian size 12 exta wide (EEE or EEEE). Does anyone have any ideas where we might be able to find some boots in this size? Army boots, tactical boots, hiking boots... any kind of durable work boots. You might try Callahan's for work boots, or REI for hiking boots. For combat boots, your best bet would be to try army surplus stores, though you might be limited to what they've got on hand. If you look for the comabat boots, take two freindly suggestions: 1. Make sure that the boots are regulation boots, not knock-offs. Regulation boots will have the government's NSN (national stock number) on either the tags or packaging. The reg. boots may cost more, but last LOTS longer (I have a pair of combat boots I wore when heavy fighting for about 5 years before the soles wore out. If I get them resoled, they'd be good for more.) 2. Get the canvas-sided jungle or desert boots if your dad lives in Texas. Theyre better designed for hot climates than the all-leather combat boots and just as tough. I'm still using my desert boots from '90 for paintball and caving. Very nice boots.
