Not sure if any of the other military types have noticed it or not, but DML's desert boots are not very accurate.  The initial issue desert boots had speed laces and no drain holes in the arch.  They also had the panama sole, not the Vietnam era waffel sole.  The DML boots will make great Vietnam era jungle boots if painted correctly (my guess is you'll see this same mold on the Vietnam figures).   The only difference between the original issue desert boots and the current issue one's is the padded collar on the new boots.  If you need pics, do a search on eBay for desert boots and you'll get several pics of both early and late issue desert boots. Not surprising.  The DML site referred to them as tan colored jungle boots for the desert.  I guess their researcher didn't go far enough to realize that although they may share some visible similarities, the desert boot is constructed very differently.

The issue ones have the Panama sole, like 21st's desert boots, which are incorrect, too, because they have drain vents at the bottom.
