I've thought about purchasing a pair of these boots. Could anyone tell me which type, the field boots or the jump boots, are more durable, more comfortable, if either? Thanks.

Bought a pair of jump boots cuz they were authorized and I'd earned them. Not comfy to walk far in. Tough though. Hot, cold, mud, sand. Wipe them off and you're still good for supernumerary on guard mount. 18 years later I still have them and they still look nice. But I ain't gonna wear them if I expect to walk more than a couple miles. good for kicking knees and heads, good for impressing fools and west pointers. bad for hiking and hunting, bad for being warm and dry. YMMV.

Or used to be. I have a pair that are around 30 yrs old, and I still wear them on occasion. Ive owned both jump and field boots, years ago, and found little difference between them in field use. Gunner I just use tennis shoe _style_ light hiking boots. I just buy three pairs at a time. If I go out into the boonies they are light enough and small enough I just shove an extra pair into my pack. If they give out, no big deal. They are very quiet and you can run like a banchee in them too. It really pisses me off that the %^&&%$ assholes can make an auto tire that lasts for 75,000 miles but the soles on you boots wear out in a few months of constant use. I've also noticed that the soles on Altima Jungle Boots sold on a military _base_ out of the clothing store seem to have a tougher material in the sole than those sold directly to civilian retailers. One of my projects is to get a good, comfortable pair of boots, like some forestry boots I used to own, and have the soles replaced not with vibrams but with the tread from a biased ply tire, say, off of a trailer or an ATV. I saw an excellent article years ago about some dudes that did an extreme amount of hiking up in the Sierras and they came up with a cool solution to the footwear dilemma. They made tough hiking sandals out of a biased ply (non-radial) auto tire, and wore them in conjunction with mocassins. All of their foot gear could be made and repaired at home. The sole on the sandals virtually never wore out. The mocassins were great for crossing soft, grassy medows and when worn in conjuction with the sandals they were excellent in the snow. They simply took their mocassins off and wore the sandals alone when crossing streams or when it was really hot. Rostov

I've thought about purchasing a pair of these boots. Could anyone tell me which type, the field boots or the jump boots, are more durable, more comfortable, if either? Thanks. I owned several pairs of Corcorans while I was in the Army, but wasn't very happy with any of them. They shine up pretty for inspections, but they didn't last very long in the field or in the motorpool. After having several pairs of them fall apart quick I gave up on them. Jungle boots seem to last longer in warm climates, while my plan for colder climates was to get a pair of the regular combat boots and put an extra lug sole on them right away.
