ACK! I am wearing cloth lined tennis shoes this summer, and the grass seeds are driving me crazy! I spend 20 minutes picking seeds out of the shoe lining before I can put them on without being stabbed. What do you folks wear on your feet? I don't want to go to my 8 boots during hot weather. Does anybody make a work shoe that is leather lined any more? Help!

Does anybody make a work shoe that is leather lined any more? Three recommendations depending on what works for you and how much you sweat. First...Russell Handsewns. Expensive ($250-300) and take six to eight weeks to get them (they are made for you) but the best pair of boots you can dream of wearing. I have the Safari hunter of something like that, canvas sides like GI Jungle boots. Second...Altama Jungle boots. Good ventilation and drainage but little insulation on the soles. Third...Altama Swartzkoff or Desert Storm boots. No drainage but great insulation in the soles. This insulation also makes them very comfortable. For work boots I wear Desert boots and for hunting, walking, berry picking etc the Russells come out.

If working with machinery you need industrial steel tipped boots Years ago when I went on a long summer walking tour I took advice from a scout shop natural leather ankle boots and wear a cotton sock and an absorbant woolen sock over it the moisture is absorbed and the foot cooled No plastic and no stretch Soldiers wear boots for the outdoor life so ex military boots can be good Tennis shoes for tennis work boots for safer feet can you afford to be even temporarily crippled ? Hugh W BTW thick expensive hand made perfectly fitting stockings is what I am talking about 3 _layer_s cotton wool leather (steel too) you may buy new shoes buit you can't get new feet

Maybe try Red Wing shoes, they have a variety of work shoes that are more than chinese or malaysian junk but still under $120 or so. Leather, American made, Steel toe.-Jitney

I'll second the recommendation for the Desert Storm boots. They look pretty cheaply made, but mine have lasted 4 years so far. I probably should have mentioned that I have size 16 feet. It is pretty rare to find a dealer who will stock large foot gear. I have to buy mail order, and even then have trouble finding much of a selection. Suggestions for sources gratefully accepted. I have already looked at the traditional Big and Tall catalog, Repp, Oversize Outfitters, etc. Right now I'm wearing a pair of Nike basketball shoes. They HAVE to make shoes that big if they want to dress their endorsers in their shoes. My boots are Danners. I have had trouble finding Red Wings in my size. I have no idea where to find Desert Storm boots, and I'm way too old for the Army to take me. :}
