A somber company of citizen soldiers gathered at Clinton's National Guard Armory on Monday, preparing for their third mission in little more than a year. This time, they're headed 547 miles away, to Fort Hood, Texas, where they will fill in on garrison duty for soldiers sent overseas. Like last time, they will likely be gone a full year. While some members of the 114th Military Police Company loaded up gear or checked equipment, others sat by silently, faces tired and eyes downcast. For these men and women, still reeling from spending nearly all of 2002 in uniform, far away from home and family, the new orders rolled in like a black cloud last week.
