I was interested in buying an airsoft gun from the US. The price of guns here in the UK are much more expensive than those for sale in the US. What do I need to do if I wanted to import an airsoft gun or two from the US? The one I'm looking at is a _meta_llic replica of the real thing with a muzzle energy of a few joules. For shotgun-type guns, does the muzzle energy figure count on a per-pellet basis or per shot basis? The airsoft shotguns fire 3 pellets at once.

As the law currently stands you should have no legal problems in importing airsoft replicas into the UK.  However I wouldn't deley.  New legislation is progressing through Parliament that will make it illegal to purchase or sell (but not to possess) realistic looking replica firearms.  Airsoft replicas will be covered by that legislation so you should act FAST! To avoid any unpleasantness at 6:00am in the morning, I suggest that you declare a realistic value for customs so that some fuckwitted jobsworth in customs doesn't think you are trying to smuggle a real gun.  The airsoft Glock 17 I own is from a distance identical to the real Glock 17s I have shot in times past.  Even the weight and trigger operation is authentic.

A bit off topic, but I was planning on buying a UTG 870 CQB Retractable Airsoft Shotgun , which is a spring operated gun. It shoots 3 330fps 0.12g pellets in one go. Do the energy limits firearms legislation apply to one pellet or the whole shot? (I'm still pretty sure its no where near the illegal limit, but this is out of academic interest). What do you think of this weapon for an airsoft novice? I've also been considering a UHC Tactical 9 Spring Airsoft (sniper) Rifle , with 500fps . I decided not to go with an assault rifle AEG for now because of cost, and I've been told by some airsofters I know that beginners should use guns which make them think & get skill rather than to spray the general direction of the opposing team with pellets. Maybe they just want to frag me?

The restriction is on the actual energy available.
