airsoft repair Airsoft Prop Question
Hi there, I recently purchased an airsoft replica pistol for use in a no-budget short film. The only problem is the orange paint on the tip of the muzzle. I know that removing these markings is highly inadvised, but the orange really is distracting. Anybody have any suggestions on how to remove the paint without damaging the pistol? I'm no lawyer, but I believe that removing such markings is not only a bad idea, but is also illegal. I would recommend using a proper prop gun from a prop house. They're not that expensive. If you're near LA I can offer a couple references.

Removing it will get you into (potential) trouble, but you can always paint over it with black Streaks n' Tips, a water-soluable spray for temporarily coloring hair. Also remember that the laws are fairly vague, so far as how much of the muzzel of a replica firearm needs to be 'blaze orange;' I have a couple of (top vented) blank-firing pieces that only have the actual barrel plug colored orange.  A piece of black paper tape covers the plug and renders the gun temporarily picture-ready; if a legal problem should ever come up, I can just peel off the tape.

Hey - don't blame ME for the stupid laws. I didn't write them.

So, Ringo, you are obviously not aware, from your provincial little third world viewpoint, of the police officers in American inner cities who have inadvertently shot children when they saw a gun pointed at them (not knowing that it was a realistic plastic toy).  This pathetic law was enacted in order to try and save lives.  Laugh if you want to, Ringo, nobody's laughing here. Honest to God true story. I was filming a Indie in Cleveland. http://www.midnightdays.com/index.htm It is half a war story and there are guns in it. Unfortunately for the owner but fortunate for us, some loon burnt this historic old mansion down. We know the owner, received the necessary permission and licensing, even called the local precint and notified the cops. However, one of the actors had been practicing using the replica weapons to get the feel for the very plastic, weighted, and scenic painted guns. It was 2:30 in the afternoon, beautiful outside and the day was going swimmingly. The cops all of a sudden bust in brandishing their weapons and going nuts. they demanded that we place our weapon on the ground then proceeded to kick it across the floor into a nearby brick wall smashing it to pieces. Then they promptly replied oh, there's a camera and the gun was plastic . So even after the necessary precautions Ringo (or should I say Stalin....just joking) things still go awry.
