Before I lose all my frozen assets by dismantling an AEG ARCTIS upright freezer to discover some vital part needs to be replaced and bought by mail order, I wonder if someone has any knowledge of the assembly of the green indicator lamp in the top of the door _frame_ and which has suddenly gone so dim as to be invisible in daylight.  It may be an LED or it might be a neon with a green filter but I'm not sure without undoing some screws which I'm loath to do without some foreknowledge since it involves having the door open with the power off while I work.   Knowing which screws not to undo will be a helpful start, the one at the extreme left hand end is in a _meta_l plate and is possibly to do with the door hinge alternative position, the others are in the plastic trim which runs the full width above the door. Apart from the green lamp there is also an orange continuous freezing indicator and a danger level lamp and buzzer, all of which work OK. Thanks to anyone who can respond.

It may be an LED or it might be a neon with a green filter but I'm not sure without undoing If it is going dim it is almost certainly a neon.  It's either on flying leads in which case it should come out from the front (held in by two plastic clips on the side which usually break) or its soldered to a small PCB with the other indicators in either case I'd leave it alone and ignore it!  The plastic casing is often held in by black painted screws accessible through a decorative slot in the front or sometimes underneath.

These can die for no apparent reason. LEDs usually work or not.

If you can provide the E number and model number which is usually located on the left hand side inside the cabinet I might may be able to help, on some of these freezers the neon is located inside the push button switch which is pcb mounted making it just about impossible to change other than changing the very expensive pcb let me know the details and I can check the break down of the cabinet for you.                       Jimbo E-nr. 625 570 804     F 100088278 The lamp is in the push button switch.

Sounds like a neon. These can die for no apparent reason. LEDs usually work or not. Green 'neon's are actually mini fluorescent tubes. The phosphor dies long before red/orange neon lamps die. This has happened to freezers I've had and I wouldn't bother trying to replace it. However, if you do, make sure you keep the freezer upright. They don't like being turned onto their sides or upside down - I recently wrecked one by doing this (in spite of leaving it upright for several days before switching back on).
