Hi all, I've been looking for information on the culture of American kids in the early fifties. Things like: Popular Toys: Candy: Entertainment (Radio shows, etc): And so forth. I'm looking specifically for pre-1954 things of importance or interest to kids between the ages of 7 and 13. I know the transistor radio came out sometime in '54 but that's about it. How uncommon were TV's? <snip Denaldo was born in 1955, so he isn't too much help, but he does know TV's were damn uncommon in the average household back then, and suggests, if you can rent them somewhere, watching old episodes of 'Spanky and Our Gang'. Actually more forties than fifties, but it is a good look at what kids did then, and you have to recall that things didn't change so rapidly back then, so a 7 year old in 1942 would have a lot more in common with a 7 year old of 1952 than the same two kids from 1990/2000.
