I am not a retiree yet. I have been following this group for about 8 months because I plan on retiring in a few years and I wanted to see what concerns retirees have. I don't remember ever posting here before because mostly I just came to listen. I am still on active with just over 21 years in so far. I would imagine most of you are either retired senior NCOs or field grade officers. I don't know whether to laugh or cry with what I see going on with this group. All of you served your country with pride and honor. In uniform you carried yourselves as professionals, which meant you respected each other regardless of rank. You didn't always agree; sometimes you agreed to disagree. It is obvious from recent postings some of you don't respect each other. Some of you post for a single purpose and the hell with everything else. Others jump into threads with off topic BS. Still others can't bring themselves to disagree but still do so in a professional manner. If this is what happens after retirement, I don't look forward to putting away the uniform. To go from true professionals to this.... As someone else said poof, I'm gone

Old Sarge: (snip) <<Oh, and forget about that fancy dancy resume you are working on for your civilian job search. Civilian employers today would rather not hire a military retiree. It's best to fancy up that resume so they cannot tell you are retired military. You can go to a civilian employer today and get a job with a Dishonorable Discharge, makes no difference to them. I strongly disagree. Although I have retired from industry, my employer was damn glad to get me as a military retiree. My wife, still employed in industry, recently hired a woman who retired from the Navy with 24 years of service. The most impressive thing on her resume? Her Navy career. Dave LaCourse, USN (ret), civilian (ret) and working on my third career!
