Is there any cadet organization left that has tall riding boots as part of their ujniform? I think the Texas A&M Cadet Corps has a riding unit. Last I remember they had gray colored uniforms with brown leather patches and tall riding boots. It's not a unit - the seniors get to wear these tall black boots that cost an arm and a leg. They're considered the real status symbol on campus. A&M has its own uniforms - it used to be a military school until the seventies or so. You can always pick out the Aggies in the San Diego airport for midshipman cruises, because they usually screw up their whites somehow since it's the first time they've ever worn them...
