Is there any cadet organization left that has tall riding boots as part of their ujniform? I think the Texas A&M Cadet Corps has a riding unit. Last I remember they had gray colored uniforms with brown leather patches and tall riding boots. Yet that was just a brochure I saw an Aggie with at Ft. Lewis. Killaurin O. Last I remember they had gray colored uniforms with brown leather patches and tall riding boots. It's not a unit - the seniors get to wear these tall black boots that cost an arm and a leg.  They're considered the real status symbol on campus. A&M has its own uniforms - it used to be a military school until the seventies or so.  You can always pick out the Aggies in the San Diego airport for midshipman cruises, because they usually screw up their whites somehow since it's the first time they've ever worn them... Oops, sent this initially to Patrick as an email...this was actually for public consumption. MIDN/1C Pemberton notes... |A&M has its own uniforms - it used to be a military school until the |seventies or so.  You can always pick out the Aggies in the San Diego Meaning the Corps of Cadets was a mandatory part of the Aggie experience until then? |airport for midshipman cruises, because they usually screw up their whites |somehow since it's the first time they've ever worn them... I remember seeing the TAMU delegate at the Marshall Conference my senior year in college.  For the uninitiated, each ROTC school (and some extension centers) get to send their supposed top-gun cadet to this conference in Lexington VA every April or so. The TAMU guy showed up with four diamonds on his collar, which combined with the boots, made him look even more Third World Dictator than the NMMI (New Mexico Military Institute, or Nine Million Marching Idiots, according to one of its graduates) guy, who showed up with five diamonds on his collar. By the way - since the boots are part of the institutional uniform, US Army Cadet Command picks up the cost for those boots for scholarship cadets. FYI - Army ROTC rank is somewhat similar to that of Commonwealth countries, in that it uses a pip and diamond system not too different from the pip and crown you see in those Commonwealth militaries.  I wore two diamonds as a senior, thus denoting a cadet lieutenant colonel. It was unusual to see three diamonds on a cadet; very few programs were so big as to warrant regimental rank anymore.  In fact, I don't think I ever saw one in my time as a cadet.  I wonder how TAMU, VMI, and other schools worked that one out when its cadets wore battle dress. LTC, I spent three years at NMMI and never saw four, or five diamonds. Neither insignia exists in any of the ROTC insignia catalogs (which albeit is only two, and over 6 years old) that I have. If the TAMU, or the NMMI cadets showed up with more than three (the max at both schools), then they were blowin' smoke up somebody's bloomers. We don't smoke and we don't chew and we don't go with girls that do! ... man I miss the ole Institute daze (err, days) <G res '69HSX
