Hop-Up is a specially designed system wchich makes shoted airsoft pellets spinning. Shoted pellet is backspining as it flys though the air and makes it go farther before it's dropping in the vertical direction. It makes shooting range much longer and also increases shoot efficiency. Normal bullet, shoted from real gun is also spinning, but it's not the same type of rotation. Pellets are much smaller and much lighter, and their kinetic energy is very small. That's why they need to be spinned to get better shooting resoults and do not change direction, because of the wind. It's pretty similar to spinning of football. Backspin is emparted by the special hop-up rubber, wchich is located in the reciever. As the pellet moves, it's caused to spin, by the top grazes the rubber. High end replicas has a possibility to adjust hop-up system. Hop-up should be adjusted, depending on weather conditions, pellet weight and it's speed. Too small spinning will resoult in low range of shot, too high rotation will make pellet fly in many differend directions from shot to shot, so it will make it absolutley unaccurate. It's always good to check if the gun has adjusted hop-up system, before you'll buy it.
