Air soft guns, also known as BB guns and Soft Air Guns are perfect replicas of real firearms, made with 1:1 scale and shooting with 6mm caliber composite balls. Airsoft is simply the name of the military game, where airoft guns are used. Airsoft gun is not a real gun. Most of them have electric or gas powered system that allows them to shoot at velocities from 100 ft/s up to 550 ft/s. Shoot distance is approximately from 20 meters (cheap, low ended replicas) up to 100 metres (highly upgraded, sniper replicas).
Airsoft was invented in Japan, in the early 50's. After second world war Japan couldn't have armed army, but just defence soldiers. Japan's law has made hard limits to production of real guns, so soldiers were trained with replicas.
Right now Airsoft is a very popular game round the world. It's much cheaper then paintball. Low ended replicas costs less then $100. If someone want's tu buy high ended, hardly upgraded replica with orginal signatures, serial numbers and real gun producer license, he needs to spend more then $1000 at this gun. Anyone can play airsoft, if he's older then 16. The only thing that you need except the gun is an eye protection. You should wear special gogles, designed to resist a punch of plastic ball, shoot with 550ff/s or even more - most Airsoft teams are shooting their gogles before they start to play. They do this to check if they're really strong enought and provide safety. |
